Witness Inspection

 

This is a cautionary tale of what to look out for when you hire someone to build you a new website.

Witness Inspection, Inc is the perfect example of how an awesome manufacturing company can pay good money for a professional website only to find that it doesn't do what they need it to. Lucky for us because we were able to fix it, but frustrating for them.

 
 
 
 

Like all good businesses, Witness is continually improving, growing, and adding new capabilities to benefit customers. But, their website did not allow them to make it known. They had no editing access. No blog, no ability to publish news or add new equipment, services, or staff… no way to make even the simplest text changes. On top of that, they started noticing a steady decline in the number of calls coming in from the website–and when calls did come in, they never seemed to have a good understanding of what Witness offered.

The design was nice enough and it had some cool elements that highlighted the machine vision inspection service at the core of their business, but the font was hard to read (more for hipsters than engineers) and it didn't have any clear calls to action. The copy was generic and didn't get to the heart of how they solved their customer's problems.

Instead of asking Witness to pay for a complete redesign to solve these problems (especially so soon after paying for the last one), we just took what they had and made it work for them.

 
 
 
 

Here are a few of the things we did to make it better:

👉 Wrote engaging copy that brings out their personality
👉 Optimized pages for the right keywords and phrases
👉 Added a pop of orange to guide users through the site
👉 Wrote customer stories to bring their services to life

Oh, and we also:

👉 Added a blog and...
👉 Gave them basic editing abilities!!

It’s astounding that some marketing agencies won't give their clients editing access. Business owners and leaders should feel empowered to use their websites! Things change fast these days, so you need to be able to keep your website up to date. Not only that, but, you are the one with the most insight into your customers and the value you provide them, not some marketing agency. And being a small shop, you probably can't justify the cost of retaining an agency anyway!
